Winter and Spring Changeover

Seasonal Tire Change in the GTA

Swap to winter tires when it drops below 7 degrees, and back again in spring. Mount, balance, torque to spec, and TPMS reset at five Limitless Tire shops across the Greater Toronto Area.

The 7 degree rule

Book your winter swap once daytime highs sit consistently below 7 degrees Celsius, usually mid to late October in the GTA. Waiting for the first snowfall is the common mistake: all-season rubber stiffens and loses grip on cold dry pavement long before any snow lands, and every shop in the region books out the week after the first storm.

Two swaps a year

Winter swap, October to November

Go on before the cold settles in. Book early and you pick the time slot instead of taking whatever is left after the rush.

Spring swap, April to May

Come off once nights stay above 7 degrees. Leaving winters on through warm weather burns through the soft compound fast.

What a seasonal tire change includes

  • Dismount the set currently on the vehicle
  • Mount your seasonal set
  • Balance all four wheels
  • Torque to manufacturer spec
  • Reset TPMS sensors
  • Free tread depth and damage check on the set coming off

Sets already mounted on their own rims are the fastest job on the board. If your seasonal set has to move rim to rim, a full mount and balance is included. Not sure which tires you actually need? Read winter tires vs all-season tires before you book.

Seasonal tire change FAQ

When should I switch to winter tires in Ontario?

Switch once daytime temperatures sit consistently below 7 degrees Celsius, which in the GTA is usually mid to late October. The 7 degree mark matters more than snow, because all-season rubber hardens as it cools and loses grip on cold dry pavement well before the first storm arrives.

When should I switch back to all-season or summer tires?

Wait until overnight temperatures stay above 7 degrees Celsius, typically mid to late April in the GTA. Running winter tires into warm spring weather wears the soft tread compound quickly and can cost you a full season of tire life.

Do winter tires lower my insurance in Ontario?

Yes. Ontario insurers are required to offer a winter tire discount, commonly around 2 to 5 percent, when you run four winter tires through the winter months. Ask your provider what proof they need, since most accept an installation invoice.

What is included in a seasonal tire change?

We dismount your current set, mount the seasonal set, balance all four wheels, torque to manufacturer spec, and reset the TPMS sensors. You also get a free tread depth and visual damage check on the set coming off, so you know before next season whether it still has life left.

How long does a seasonal tire change take?

Plan for 45 to 60 minutes per vehicle. Tires already mounted on their own rims are quickest. If your seasonal set has to be swapped rim to rim, a full mount and balance is included and the job takes longer.

Do I need a second set of rims for winter tires?

You do not need them, but a dedicated set of winter rims makes every future swap faster and cheaper because there is no mounting or unmounting of rubber. Steel rims are the budget option and they resist salt corrosion better than most finished alloys.

Can you store my off-season tires?

Yes, seasonal tire storage is available at our GTA locations, and your set is inspected before it goes on the rack and ready when you book the next swap. That also frees up your garage or locker for the half of the year you do not need them.

Can I finance winter tires or a seasonal package?

Yes. Winter tires and full winter packages are eligible for no credit check financing, so you can spread the cost of a seasonal set rather than paying it all in the same month as the swap.

Beat the first snowfall.

Booking in October means you choose the appointment. Booking in December means you wait behind everyone who did not.
